The group of elected representatives from the Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) has selected Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye, a member of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and a state parliament representative, as Vice President.
Today (March 31), the second day of the meeting of the group of elected Upper House representatives participating in the Presidential Electoral College was held at the Amyotha Hluttaw.
At the meeting, two candidates were nominated for the position of Vice President: Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye, a USDP member and Kayin State Hluttaw representative, and Dr. Manam Tu Ja, Chairman of the Kachin State People’s Party (KSPP) and a proportional representation MP from Kachin State Constituency No. (2). As there were two nominees, a secret ballot vote was held.
Out of 157 elected Upper House representatives, two were absent due to health reasons, and 155 cast their votes. Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye received 117 votes, while Dr. Manam Tu Ja received 38 votes. As a result, Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye was elected as Vice President.
Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye previously served two consecutive terms as an Amyotha Hluttaw representative during the first and second parliamentary terms. She currently serves as a central executive committee member of the USDP and a state party chairperson, and has also been elected as a representative in the Kayin State Hluttaw.
IThe name of the Vice President elected by the group of elected Upper House representatives will be submitted by the Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw to the Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament).
