Two 10-year-old students were injured by shrapnel after an artillery shell fired by a joint KIA and KPDF force landed and exploded inside the compound of Basic Education High School in Hpakant, according to reports.

The incident occurred on the morning of February 2, when KIA and KPDF groups reportedly launched artillery attacks toward Hpakant town from a distance of about 3,000 meters to the southwest of the town.

As a result of the shelling, several artillery rounds fell and exploded within and around the Basic Education High School (Hpakant), damaging school buildings and classrooms. The two injured students, both Grade-4 pupils, were identified as Maung Lin Khant Ko from Ngapyawtaw Ward in Hpakant and Ma Ron Dint from Jang Gat village. They sustained shrapnel wounds and are currently receiving necessary medical treatment, according to sources.
