MR operates PyinOoLwin–Goteik sightseeing train on public holidays, attracting large passenger demand

The PyinOoLwin-Goteik-PyinOoLwin sightseeing train on the Mandalay-Lashio railway section is operating on public holidays and is attracting a large number of passengers, according to Myanma Railways (MR).

The Myanma Railways under the Ministry of Transport and Communications has been operating the Goteik (1) PyinOoLwin-Goteik, Goteik (2) Goteik-PyinOoLwin sightseeing train routes every Saturday and Sunday since December 19, allowing domestic and foreign tourists to see the historic Goteik Viaduct and explore the natural scenery of the rivers, mountains, and forests along the way.

As of January 13, the train has operated 18 times, carrying 540 passengers. The package includes six RBE upper-class trips with a capacity of 24 passengers and two RBE ordinary-class trips with a capacity of 40 passengers, totaling 224 passengers. On January 12, 210 students and teachers from Snow Queen Private High School in PyinOoLwin were transported by chartered trains consisting of three ordinary-class and one upper-class train. Since the start of the service, a total of 974 passengers has been transported.

The PyinOoLwin-Goteik, Goteik-PyinOoLwin RBE train can carry 40 passengers. The Goteik (1) RBE train departs from PyinOoLwin Station at 8 am and arrives at Goteik Station at 11:30 am.

The Goteik (2) RBE train departs from Goteik Station at 12:30 pm and returns to PyinOoLwin Station at 4 pm. Along the way, there will be a number of stops, including Pwe Kauk, Wetwan, Samse, and Nawnghkio stations.

Regular services are provided for the PyinOoLwin-Goteik round trip on weekends and holidays. If tour companies, travel agencies, and private schools want to rent a RBE train (whole train) on specific days, the round trip will cost 720,000 kyats per person for a 24-person upper class coach.

Similarly, a large train will be operated to accommodate 150 passengers and above, with one upper class coach and three ordinary class coaches. If the passengers want to rent a coach, they can rent it three days in advance and the cost will be 15,000 kyats per ordinary class coach and 30,000 kyats per upper class coach.
