It has been learned that a total of 61 inmates, including one Chinese national, were granted amnesty from Myeik Prison and the Kyaukphyu Taung Production Camp.
Among those serving sentences at Myeik Prison and the Kyaukphyu Taung Production Camp in Tanintharyi Region, 61 male and female prisoners were granted amnesty on January 4 under Section 401, Subsection (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The amnesty was granted in accordance with Amnesty Order No. (2/2026) issued by the National Defense and Security Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, under Section 401, Subsection (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code. As a result, 38 inmates from Myeik Prison—32 men and 6 women—were released, along with 23 male inmates from the Kyaukphyu Taung Production Camp in Sandawut Village Tract, Myeik Township.
Among those released was a 30-year-old Chinese national named Han Wen, who had been detained at Myeik Prison under Section 13(1) of the Immigration Act. He was granted amnesty, and authorities said that procedures are continuing to deport him in accordance with the law.
It was also reported that officials made arrangements to help those released who are from distant areas return to their respective hometowns.
