The Union Election Commission (UEC) has announced that election-related public gatherings, speeches, and campaign activities for townships participating in Election Phase (3) may resume starting from January 12, 2026.
It is reported that the Union Election Commission had already issued Notification No. 151/2025 on November 28, announcing the permitted campaign periods and suspension dates for townships included in Phases (1) and (2) of the multiparty democratic general election, which began on December 28, 2025.
As the list of 63 townships included in Election Phase (3) was announced on December 25 through Notification No. 170/2025, campaigning and election-related public gatherings for these Phase (3) townships will be allowed from January 12, 2026. Campaigning must be suspended starting at 12:00 midnight on January 23 and remain halted until the completion of the Phase (3) election on January 25. It is also stated that all campaign advertisements and posters in Phase (3) townships must be removed no later than 12:00 midnight on January 23.
During the officially designated campaign period, the printing and distribution of pamphlets, the installation and display of billboards and vinyl posters, the holding of public gatherings and speeches, and campaigning through media outlets must be carried out in accordance with Section 30-A of the relevant Hluttaw Election Laws and the provisions set out in Chapter (10) of the election bylaws. Similarly, campaign advertisements and posters in Phase (1) and Phase (2) townships must be removed by the final day of their respective permitted campaign periods.
The Union Election Commission further announced that if campaign advertisements and posters are not removed by the specified deadline, township sub-commissions will coordinate with the relevant municipal or township development committees to remove them. Any costs incurred for such removal will be borne by the relevant political party or parliamentary candidate.
