The People’s Party (PP) has won the Regional Hluttaw constituency (FPTP) in Myeik Township, while the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) has secured the highest number of votes in the remaining constituencies across the Tanintharyi Region, according to reports.

During Phase (1) of the election, voting in Tanintharyi Region was held in Kawthaung, Dawei, Bokpyin, and Myeik townships.

It is reported that in Myeik Township, the USDP submitted a written objection against the People’s Party to the township election commission.

On the morning of December 28, the day the election was held, the USDP lodged a formal complaint with the township election commission, alleging that Daw Thi Thi Khine, who was responsible for verifying voter names at the Pasaung polling station in Myeik Township, pointed with her finger and instructed voters Daw Saw Than and Daw Zin Mar Khine to vote for the People’s Party (PP) when they came to cast their ballots.

U Aung Aung, Tanintharyi Regional Chairman of the People’s Party, said that under the law, if such an offense is proven, the offender could face imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to 100,000 kyats, or both.

“This objection should not be made simply because our party won,” he said. “Across the entire Tanintharyi Region, we have only won the Regional Hluttaw seat in Myeik Township. All other seats have been won by the USDP. Today, the commission has called the candidates to sign the documents. As far as I know, once the signatures are completed, objections can no longer be submitted.”

It is learned that the objection was filed by the USDP township chairman in Myeik, U Kyaw Kyaw Oo, following a complaint submitted by U Aung San Lwin, a representative at the Pasaung village polling station in Myeik Township.

For the Myeik Township Regional Hluttaw constituency (FPTP), the candidates were U Khai Oo from the People’s Party, U Win Kyu from the USDP, U Aung Yu from the Myanmar Farmers Development Party, and independent candidate Daw Nyo Mi Aung.
