Urban and Housing Development Department warns of fake room purchase approvals
Published 7 November 2025

The Department of Urban and Housing Development under the Ministry of Construction has warned the public to beware of fraudulent activities involving fake notifications of room purchase approvals.

According to the department, scammers have been sending counterfeit approval letters to prospective buyers, falsely claiming that they are authorized to purchase rooms. The victims are then instructed to pay 30 percent of the room price to a specified bank account within 15 days and to submit the payment receipt via email or directly to the department’s head office in Nay Pyi Taw.

The department cautioned the public not to fall for such scams and urged buyers to verify the authenticity of any purchase-related information directly with the Department of Urban and Housing Development. It also advised that any inquiries or doubts should be made in person at the department.
