Published 22 August 2025

The Mon Unity Party (MUP) has announced that it will contest in the 2025 general election, according to party officials.

During its central committee meeting held on August 17, the Mon State–based party decided participation of its candidates in selected townships rather than across the entire state. An official explained that the MUP will not contest all 10 constituencies in Mon State but will participate in certain areas such as Thanbyuzayat, Chaungzon, and Mudon townships.

The Union Election Commission (UEC) has stated that the general election will be held in December 2025 across 28 townships in Mon State, including Mawlamyine, Thaton, and Kyaikhto. In the 2020 general election, the Mon Unity Party contested 45 constituencies nationwide and secured 12 seats.
