Union Minister for Health, Dr. Thet Khaing Win, announced that the Public Health Department has hired 7,305 new employees and promoted 3,192 staff members. The minister made these remarks during a meeting on August 4 with officials from the Public Health and Medical Service Departments, including directors from Nay Pyi Taw, regions, and states.
He stated that the Ministry of Health has successfully recruited 4,795 basic health staff, 1,058 midwives, and 22 dental officers, among others, totaling 7,305 new hires. Additionally, 3,192 employees have been promoted.
The minister highlighted several key achievements, including the appointment of specialist doctors in public hospitals up to the 50-bed level, as well as the recruitment of new assistant medical officers and dental surgeons, which has improved treatment efficiency. Furthermore, free lab tests and X-rays have been expanded in public hospitals, and modern medical equipment and essential medicines have been procured using state health funds, reducing patients' out-of-pocket expenses. Support for health workers has also increased, with measures such as professional degree conferrals, salary raises, and staff housing provisions.
Dr. Thet Khaing Win urged continuous efforts to strengthen healthcare services, address weaknesses, and enhance national health standards to support the country’s development goals.
Deputy Minister Dr. Aye Tun emphasized the need to improve healthcare indicators and build a responsive health system to address emerging challenges swiftly.
Afterwards, the directors-general gave sector-specific operational instructions, while the attending heads of department from Nay Pyi Taw, regional, and state Public Health and Medical Service Departments discussed their work progress and requirements.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Dr. Aye Tun, officials from the Union Minister’s Office, officials of Public Health and Medical Service Departments, and department heads from Nay Pyi Taw, regions, and states.
