The upcoming general election in Myanmar is scheduled for December, and efforts will be made to ensure that all eligible voters can cast their ballots, said Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister.
Speaking at an honorary SAC meeting held on July 30 at Zeyathiri Beikman in Nay Pyi Taw, he stated that voting is the duty of the electorate, while the government is responsible for facilitating the voting process.
To support those facing difficulties in voting, legal provisions for advance voting have been arranged. The Senior General highlighted that, drawing from past parliamentary experiences, the Hluttaw should operate in a more organized and systematic manner. As it is the legislative body where laws are created, its members must be well-educated and possess strong analytical abilities. Accordingly, legal amendments have been published.
He stressed the importance of holding a free and fair multiparty democratic election, noting that electoral fraud and disruptions must be prevented as in the 2020 election. To that end, the Tatmadaw and security forces have been assigned specific roles, the military service law has been enacted and enforced where necessary, and public security, defense, counter-terrorism, and militia groups have been formed. However, he emphasized that public cooperation is essential for the election’s success.
Also attending the event were SAC Vice-Chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, the SAC Secretary and Joint Secretary, SAC members, Union-level dignitaries, Union ministers, senior Tatmadaw officers, deputy ministers, and chief ministers of regions and states who joined via video conferencing.
