More than 70 elected village administrators met with Brigade 565 of the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) and the Civil-Military Relations Coordination Committee (CMRCC) at the hall of Battalion 383 in Kanyin Myaing Village, Mohnyin Township, Kachin State, on October 18, according to reports.
During the meeting, participants discussed regional peace and stability, security, and development issues. Sao Sai Phone Kyaw, Deputy Commander of SNA Brigade 565, explained the five main aspirations of the Shanni people.
"We are following the government's policies, and the public should also understand them. We explained the policies we are implementing and made it clear that we would provide assistance wherever we could. We also held this meeting to learn about any concerns or issues the public wanted to raise.
"Although not every ward and village tract could attend, representatives from every group were present. As the area lies along railway and road routes, the participants included people from various ethnic groups, including Shan, Bamar and Kachin. They were representatives selected by their respective communities.
"On our side, we had extensive discussions about our policies and the assistance we could provide. We are also making efforts to organize similar meetings in Mohnyin Township," said Sao Sai Phone Kyaw, Deputy Commander of SNA Brigade 565.
The elected village administrators raised local concerns, including the need to combat drug-related problems and address security issues.
Participants also discussed ways to jointly coordinate and resolve difficulties faced by local residents and SNA leaders, as well as cooperate in implementing regional development projects.
Earlier, on October 9, 2026, the National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) met with the Shanni Nationalities Unity Council/Shanni Nationalities Army (SNUC/SNA) at the meeting hall of the Horizon Lake View Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
The discussions covered the political recognition of the SNUC/SNA and matters related to military coordination and cooperation between the two sides.
