A tornado hit Nyaung Waing area in Alut village in Paung Township early this morning, destroying around 22 houses, according to local residents.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. today, July 27, in the Nyaung Waing area of Alut Village, Paung Township, a local resident reported.

"About 22 houses were completely destroyed. The roofs of the fire station were also blown away. Additionally, a telecommunication tower was damaged," the resident added.

The storm also uprooted trees and knocked down electricity poles within the village, though no casualties were reported.

Authorities, including the Myanmar Police Force and Fire Services Department, along with local volunteers, are currently clearing debris from the affected areas.

This is not the first such incident in the region. Just days earlier, on July 24, a tornado struck several neighborhoods in Paung Town—including Moe Hnyin, Paung, and Kadar wards—damaging over 200 homes and religious structures while also toppling power lines and trees.

Similarly, on July 25, tornadoes hit Katun Village in the afternoon and Thayar Gone Village in the evening, causing further destruction to residential areas.

Between July 22 and 25, multiple townships in Mon State—including Ye, Thanbyuzayat, Mudon, Mawlamyine, Thaton, Kyaikhto, and Bilin—experienced severe storms and tornadoes. These disasters damaged religious buildings, schools, and over 300 homes. Tragically, one man was killed, and at least 13 others were injured, with extensive damage to trees and power infrastructure reported.
