Two Myanmar women working in Malaysia were struck by a car while riding their bicycles home from work, resulting in the death of one and injuries to the other, according to the Myanmar Social Welfare Association (Malaysia).
The two women, who worked at a garment laundry factory in the Nusa Puree area of Kulai town, Johor state, Malaysia, had finished work around 7 p.m. on June 30 and were heading back to their accommodation when they were hit from behind by a car.
As a result of the collision, Ma Ei Ei Win lost her life, while Ma Khin Lay Nwel is currently receiving medical treatment. Both women are from Zeephyu Khin village in Phyu Township, Bago Region, Myanmar.
It was also learned from the Myanmar Social Welfare Association (Malaysia) that Ma Ei Ei Win had planned to marry her fiancé on July 5.
Following requests from the victims’ families in Myanmar, officials from the Labour Section of the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur met with the employer on July 1 to discuss full insurance compensation for the families.
The employer also pledged to provide necessary support. Additionally, embassy staff visited the hospital where the injured woman is receiving treatment and coordinated with the employer to ensure full medical support, according to the association.
