Strong monsoon winds may bring isolated heavy rains in some regions including Nay Pyi Taw: DMH

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) issued a warning on June 20 that due to the strong monsoon winds in Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, there will be isolated heavy rains in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Bago, upper Sagaing, Ayeyawady regions, Kachin, Mon and Rakhine states.

According to the forecast, rain or thundershowers will be scattered in Mandalay, Magway, lower Sagaing regions and Kayah State, fairly widespread in upper Sagaing Region and Chin, northern Shan State and widespread in the remaining regions and states with likelihood of isolated heavy falls in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Bago, upper Sagaing, Ayeyawady, Taninthayi regions and Kachin, Kayin, Mon, Rakhine states. Degree of certainty is 100%.

The cumulonimbus clouds are developing in Yangon, Bago, upper Sagaing, Ayeyawady, Taninthayi regions and Rakhine State. The area along the cumulonimbus clouds movement, the weather phenomena such as strong winds accompanied with rain, thunder, lightning and hail may occur and therefore it is recommended to be aware in advance these phenomena.

Squalls with rough seas are likely at times off and along Myanmar Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach 30 m.p.h. Wave height will be about 10-12 feet off and along Myanmar Coasts. There will be more rain in Sagaing Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kachin State, Kayin State, Mon State and Shan State over the next two days.

During the past 24 hours, weather has been partly cloudy in lower Sagaing Region. Rain or thundershowers have been isolated in Mandalay Region, scattered in Magway Region and Kayah, Chin, northern Shan states, fairly widespread in upper Sagaing Region and Kachin, Rakhine, (southern and eastern) Shan states and widespread in the remaining regions and states with isolated heavy falls in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Bago, upper Sagaing, Ayeyawady regions and Mon, Rakhine states.

The noteworthy amount of rainfall recorded were 6.85 inches in Hkamti, 5.67 inches in Kyaukpyu, 5.51 inches in Taunggu (Avia-Met), 4.40 inches in Bogale, 3.66 inches in Mudon, 3.39 inches in Paung, 2.33 inches in Hpa-an, 2.17 inches in Mawlamyine, 2.13 inches each in Kawkareik and Kyeikmayaw and 2.01 inches in Hpa-an (Agro-Met).
