In his New Year's greetings for the year 1387 of the Myanmar calendar, Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister, said that efforts will be made to rebuild government offices, people's homes and roads in the quake-hit areas.

“We will also work hard to rebuild government offices, people's homes and roads in the quake-hit areas. In order to boost the country's economy, we need to work hard to increase the key agricultural and livestock-based manufacturing industries. Similarly, all those involved in the MSME business should do their best to produce as much as possible within the current situation. Education is also important in the development of the country,” said the Prime Minister.

“Our country has experienced two natural disasters in the past year. In September, Typhoon Yagi caused heavy rains and flash floods in some towns and villages, and on March 28, a very strong earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale hit the country,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister said, “Due to the extensive damage and casualties, a lot of assistance is needed for emergency relief efforts in the quake-hit areas. We have invited domestic and foreign assistance, and during the sixth BIMSTEC Summit held in Thailand, I met with the heads of state attending the meeting and requested assistance regarding the earthquake.”

The Prime Minister expressed his special gratitude to all the domestic and international relief workers who are actively assisting in emergency relief efforts in the quake-hit areas, and to all the foreign and domestic donors who have donated necessary supplies, relief materials and donations to the quake-affected people.

“Our government will carry out reconstruction and rehabilitation work in the quake-affected areas as soon as possible. I believe that if we work together with the collective efforts of our people, we will be able to return to normalcy as soon as possible. Our government is working to strengthen a truly disciplined multi-party democracy in the country and build a union based on democracy and federalism. In order to quickly re-implement the multi-party democracy that the people want, we are making efforts to hold a free and fair multi-party democratic general election in December. If people really want a multi-party democracy, they need to cooperate in ensuring that the election is successful. Our government is always making efforts to best serve the interests of the country and all citizens,” said the Prime Minister.

“We are also working to achieve lasting and genuine peace because of the need for stability and peace for the development of the country. Our government has also invited and offered to resolve political problems through political means to end the current conflicts. We believed that since we are ethnic brothers born in the Union, we will be able to work together in the spirit of the Union,” said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister also called on all citizens to learn from the hardships, difficulties, and challenges we faced in the past year and identify our weaknesses and join in the new year with new ideas, new visions, and the multi-party democracy that the country will continue to walk on.

On the auspicious occasion of the Myanmar New Year, which marks the transition to the year 1387, the Prime Minister, also wished that all ethnic people born in the Union living in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as well as all people around the world, may they be free from harm and be filled with mental and physical well-being.
