A Myanmar national and a worker who ran a motorbike rental and repair shop in Thailand have been arrested, the Bangkok Post reported.

Thai Tourist Police, Immigration and local authorities raided a motorbike rental shop in Ban Hat Rin Village Moo 6 and found the owner, 40-year-old Myanmar national Than Zin Soe, and a Chin employee. They were arrested on February 27.

The raid was carried out after complaints from foreign tourists about the high prices of motorbike rentals, said Pol. Lt. Col. Winit.

During questioning, Than Zin Soe said he had confiscated the passports of the motorbike renters, signed a contract to rent the motorbikes and paid the employee 200 baht per day, took responsibilities for accommodation and food, the report said.

The report further states that they earn at least 13,000 baht per day from renting motorbikes, and that they earn about 20,000 baht per day when added to additional income from related services such as repairs.

The arrested shop owner, Than Zin Soe, has been charged with working in a job that foreigners are not allowed to do, employing an illegal migrant worker whose visa has expired for more than five years, and a case has been opened for illegal employment. They have been transferred to the Koh Phangan Police Station, where action is being taken, the report said.
