The State Administration Council has announced a nationwide observance of the National Day of Mourning on April 1, 2025, at 12:51:02 PM Myanmar Standard Time.
This solemn event will honor the victims of the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025, causing significant loss of life and destruction.
As part of the national mourning, the following activities will take place across the country such as the national flag will be flown at half-staff at designated locations,a one-minute moment of silence will be observed at 12:51:02 PM in front of flagpoles, appropriate locations, or ongoing ceremonies.
Moreover, people in transit are encouraged to stop and bow their heads for one minute in silent tribute. A siren will sound at the designated time as a mark of mourning.
Media outlets will temporarily suspend regular broadcasts and display mourning logos, religious observances such as the recitation of Metta, Paritta, and prayers, as well as the sharing of merits, will take place at pagodas, temples, and other holy sites.
This national mourning period follows the official declaration by the State Administration Council Chairman, designating March 31 to April 6, 2025, as seven days of mourning for the earthquake victims.
The State Administration Council urges all citizens to participate in these commemorative activities to honor the memory of those who have perished and to express solidarity with the affected communities.
