The Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda on Inlay Lake will be temporarily closed due to structural damage, according to the pagoda's trustee committee.

Starting from the afternoon of March 30, the pagoda will be closed for structural inspections and necessary repairs, as stated by the responsible officials.

“It’s hard to say what comes next. First, we need to conduct an inspection with the engineering team and find solutions,” said a member of the trustee committee.

The closure follows a powerful earthquake that struck on March 28 at 1:00 PM, causing significant destruction in the Inlay Lake area. Reports indicate that over 2,300 houses were damaged, and more than 80 people lost their lives due to the disaster.

The most affected villages in the Inlay Lake region include Kela, Zayatgyi, Kyataw, and Eshewegyi. The earthquake has left Inlay Lake in a state of devastation, and there is an urgent need for assistance.
