2024-2025 fiscal year trade volume exceeds $20 billion, reaches 78% of target

During the nine months of the 2024-2025 fiscal year, the total trade volume exceeded US$20 billion, with exports surpassing USD 11 billion and imports exceeding $9 billion, according to data referenced from the Ministry of Commerce and released by the Ministry of Planning and Finance.

As of March 12, 2025, the trade volume reached $25.793 billion, achieving 78% of the targeted trade volume, stated Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn.

The 1/2025 meeting of the National Export Strategy Government-Private Sector Export Promotion Committee was held on March 18, 2025, at Office No. 3 of the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw. The meeting was attended by 65 officials, including the committee chairman, Union Minister for Planning and Finance, the vice-chairman, Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn, committee members, chairpersons of sector-specific export development committees, and representatives from relevant government departments and private sector associations.

In his opening remarks, the committee chairman emphasized the need to prioritize short-term, high-impact projects (Quick Wins) within the sector-specific action plans. He also highlighted the importance of overseeing and coordinating annual budget allocations and ensuring collaboration among stakeholders. As the National Export Strategy (2020-2025) nears its conclusion, he urged the identification of remaining tasks and the alignment of ongoing projects with current conditions. Additionally, he stressed the need to prepare and supplement action plans to support the drafting of the National Export Strategy (2026-2030).

Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn reported that the trade volume target for the 2024-2025 fiscal year was set at $33 billion. As of March 12, 2025, the trade volume reached $25.793 billion, achieving 78% of the target. With the fiscal year nearing its end, he called for maximum efforts to meet the set targets and emphasized the need for continuous collaboration among government departments, private sector associations, and exporters to double export volumes.

Committee members and private sector representatives discussed the progress of sector-specific action plans, ongoing initiatives, and areas requiring government-private sector collaboration to boost exports. The discussions were addressed by the committee chairman, Union Minister for Planning and Finance, and officials from the State Administration Council Office (Ministry 3).
