Myanmar deports 189 foreign nationals involved in telecom fraud and criminal activities

A total of 189 foreign nationals, including 169 Indonesians, 19 Bangladeshis, and one Japanese citizen, have been deported to their respective countries for their involvement in telecom fraud and other criminal activities, according to reports.

These foreign nationals had entered Myanmar illegally via border routes, passing through neighboring countries such as Thailand. They were found to be operating online gambling, telecom fraud, and other illicit activities in areas including Myawady, Shwe Kokko, Mae Tha Waw, Min Let Pan, and KK Park in Kayin State. Authorities identified and detained them before deporting them in an organized manner.

The deportation process yesterday took place via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 2, with Myanmar authorities ensuring compliance with legal protocols and demonstrating humanitarian considerations and international cooperation.

Colonel Min Thu Kyaw, Minister for Kayin State Security and Border Affairs , supervised the deportation process to ensure smooth operations. Officials from relevant departments assisted in handling necessary arrangements.

The official handover ceremony was attended by representatives from the Kayin State government, security and border affairs officials, and diplomats from Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Japan. Notable attendees included Mr. Md. Fahad Pervez Bosunia, Consul of the Bangladesh Embassy in Thailand; Mr. Judha Nugraha, Director of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Citizen Protection and Rescue Department; and Naoto Watanabe, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Thailand. Thai immigration officials were also present to oversee the process, and relevant documents were formally transferred to the respective authorities.

Additionally, 180 Chinese nationals and 62 Ethiopians who entered Myanmar illegally through Myawady's KK Park area were also identified and detained. Authorities are now gathering personal data and records to facilitate their deportation as soon as possible.

Between January 30 and March 18, Myanmar authorities detained a total of 7,107 foreign nationals who had entered the country illegally. Of these, 4,191 were deported to their respective countries via Thailand, while 2,916 remain in custody, awaiting repatriation. Officials have assured that they are being held under proper care.

The detained individuals come from various countries, including China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nepal, Thailand, Rwanda, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Ghana, Bangladesh, Japan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, Congo, Cameroon, and Taiwan. The majority of them are Chinese nationals, according to reports.
