Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin stated that Myanmar is one of Russia's key allies in the Asia-Pacific region. He made this remark during a meeting with Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is on a state visit to Russia.
The meeting took place at the Russian government house on March 4 at around 12 PM local time. The Russian Prime Minister welcomed Myanmar’s leader, expressing his delight at the visit and emphasizing that Myanmar is an important strategic partner for Russia in the Asia-Pacific. He also noted that this visit would help strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing expressed his appreciation for the meeting, highlighting the long-standing diplomatic ties between Myanmar and Russia, which have surpassed 77 years. He acknowledged the continuous improvement in bilateral relations and cooperation while expressing gratitude for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation.
During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including trade, industry, manufacturing, agriculture, and investment. Other key topics included collaboration in space and satellite technology, promoting tourism between the two countries, attracting Russian investment into Myanmar, signing agreements between the two governments, and facilitating high-level government visits between Myanmar and Russia.
The meeting was attended by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing along with high-ranking officials, including Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, as well as the SAC members. The Russian delegation included ministers and senior officials from the Russian government.
