An earthquake struck Yangon in the early hours of March 5, with residents across multiple townships reporting noticeable shaking.

The tremor occurred at approximately 4:35 AM, affecting areas such as Thaketa, Sanchaung, Mingaladon, Insein, Yankin, North Dagon, Latha, North Okkalapa, South Dagon, Thingangyun, Kyauktada, and Pazundaung Townships of Yangon Region, as well as some townships in the Ayeyarwady Region.

"It lasted for a few seconds. The shaking was lateral. There was a first tremor, followed by another. It must have been an aftershock," said a resident from Thingangyun Township.

Reports indicate that the first tremor occurred at around 4:35 AM, followed by a second one at 4:54 AM.

"It was more noticeable in high-rise buildings. The shaking was quite strong," a resident from Thaketa Township shared.

According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar at 4:36 AM local time on March 5. The epicenter was located about 33 miles northwest of the Kaba-Aye Seismological Station, approximately 6 miles southeast of Nyaungdon, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

A similar earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale, was also recorded in Yangon on the morning of March 3.
