Government officials and CITIC discuss Kyaukphyu deep-sea port project

Government officials and CITIC, a Chinese company have met to discuss the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Deep Sea Port Project.

A business coordination meeting on the conditions precedent that must be met by both sides for the successful implementation of the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Deep Sea Port Project was held on February 28 at the Meeting Room 1 of Ministry of Commerce, Office No. 3 in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the meeting, Dr Kan Zaw, Chairman of the Central Working Group on Myanmar Special Economic Zones and Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, said that cooperation should be strengthened to quickly start the construction of the deep sea port project, which is important for economic development, and that the development plan of the deep sea port project should be improved in line with the modern system.

U Tun Ohn, Deputy Chairman of the Central Working Group on Myanmar Special Economic Zones and Union Minister for Commerce, said that the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Deep Sea Port Project is an important project for Myanmar and Myanmar-China Economic Corridor Cooperation Project for China. In order to successfully implement the projects within the specified period, the necessary works are being completed within the specified period and the timelines are being set.

In addition, officials from CITIC Consortium Myanmar Port Investment Limited explained in detail the completion status and the conditions to be continued in relation to the conditions precedent that must be met by both parties.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister Dr Kan Zaw, Union Minister U Tun Ohn, Chairman of the Rakhine State Farmland Management Committee, Chief Minister of Rakhine State, Deputy Minister for Commerce, officials from the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Management Committee, Chairman Mr Liang Chuanxin of CITIC Consortium Myanmar Port Investment Limited, and respective officials from the Myanmar side and CITIC Consortium to discuss the conditions precedent that must be met by both sides for the implementation of the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Deep Sea Port project.
