Security gate at Donthami Bridge attacked

Mon State - A security checkpoint at Donthami Bridge, located between Thaton District in Mon State and Bago District in Karen State, was struck by four hand-made rockets  at approximately 1:00 pm, local sources reported.

A resident of the area confirmed the attack, stating, “I heard four explosions. It seems they targeted the Donthami Bridge side. I did not hear of any casualties, and the bridge itself was not damaged.”

The assailants’ identities remain unclear, and the specific group responsible for the attack has not been confirmed. However, security sources suggest that the rockets were fired from the direction of the Kawhlaing creek, Kawpanaw  village, Naungkyan village tract, Hpa-an Township.

During the attack, the Thaton-Bago highway was closed for approximately one hour, causing temporary disruptions to local traffic. There have been no reported injuries at this time.

The attack on the security gate is under investigation, with authorities working to determine the responsible parties.

On June1, 2023, similar attack happened at the security gates in Hpa-an and Thaton sides in Donthami Bridge where security forces and 2 civilians were killed.
