YBS drivers who drive recklessly will be subjected to suspension of their driver’s licenses for a period of time, said U Chit Ko Ko, vice chairman of the Yangon Region Private Transport Regulatory Committee (YRTC).
The vice chairman said this at the awareness seminar No. (1/2025) for YBS drivers who violate the rules organized by the Yangon Region Private Transport Regulatory Committee (YRTC) on January 16.
The reason for the irregular driving is that drivers drive with a system of bribery and greed, and if they cannot overtake, they become angry and hostile, and they treat passengers and drivers with disrespect. There have been incidents of clashes and people who are unable to distinguish between right and wrong, dangerous and not, due to ignorance, such as overtaking YBS vehicles on the road, driving in the opposite direction, driving through red lights, and driving over the designated kilometer limit. YBTC will not tolerate such incidents at all. In addition to canceling the driver’s Smart Card, the Yangon Region Traffic and Road Safety Council has decided to suspend the driver’s license for a specified period of time.
U Chit Ko Ko said that the POS card payment system is also being effectively inspected and taken action against the bus lines that have been closed. When applying for a YBS driver’s license, those who have attended a heavy vehicle driving course are only allowed to drive after passing a drug test. In taking action, YRTC uses high-tech telematics devices and CCTV records from the Traffic Control Center to take action, and checks for drug use and enforces strict controls with solid evidence, the Vice Chairman said.
YBS buses under YRTC are reportedly transporting about 1.5 million commuters daily with 4,000 drivers.
