The India-Myanmar Business Conclave 2025, aimed at boosting economic and trade cooperation in sectors such as oil, energy, electricity, and digital payments, was held on January 10 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Yangon. The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of India and the India-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce (IMCC).

Deputy Minister of Commerce U Minn Minn and Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Shri Abhay Thakur addressed the gathering, emphasizing the commitment of both governments to strengthen bilateral economic and commercial ties. The Joint Secretary and Minister of Commerce of India also delivered virtual remarks, highlighting the significant untapped potential in bilateral trade and the recent initiatives by India to enhance trade links with Myanmar.

The Conclave served as a platform to review existing bilateral mechanisms, explore key areas of cooperation, and deliberate on future opportunities for mutual collaboration. Discussions centered on major initiatives, including the incentivization of the Rupee-Kyat trade settlement mechanism, the early conclusion of the Coastal Shipping Agreement, enhanced collaboration in petroleum, energy, and power, and the integration of digital payment systems such as the RuPay card and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Myanmar.

Senior officials from Myanmar’s Ministries of Commerce, Planning and Finance, Agriculture, Health, and Tourism, as well as representatives from the Central Bank of Myanmar, participated in the event. The discussions also identified infrastructure development projects, such as the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, as key sectors for collaboration, alongside opportunities in agriculture, renewable energy, technology, and tourism.

These areas were recognized as critical for fostering regional growth and connectivity. The Conclave concluded with a reaffirmation of both nations' strong commitment to enhancing their bilateral partnership, paving the way for deeper economic and trade cooperation.
