A 27-year-old woman who went to a beauty clinic in Thingangyun Township, Yangon Region, for a fat removal treatment was found dead six days later. Her body was discovered abandoned in Dagon Seikkan Township, according to her friends.
The deceased was identified as Ma Zar Chi Oo, a resident of Kyauktada Township. She reportedly visited the IRIS Beauty Clinic in Thingangyun Township on the afternoon of December 27. After that, her family was unable to contact her, prompting her friends to seek help through social media and the police.
Her disappearance was reported, and assistance was sought to locate her. On January 2, authorities informed the family that her body had been found.
One of her friends shared, “She went missing on the evening of December 27. We only found her body on January 2. The Dagon Seikkan police informed us about the discovery that evening. We had already reported her missing at the Kyauktada Police Station, and the police communicated with each other to confirm the identity.”
At the time her body was recovered, she was still wearing her jewelry, but her mobile phone was missing, the friend added.
“Currently, her family and the relevant authorities are continuing their investigation. We don’t know all the details yet. When she first went missing, we provided a contact number for information about her whereabouts,” the friend explained.
It was also reported on social media that the owner of IRIS Beauty Clinic had deactivated her social media accounts and gone into hiding following the incident. The clinic, located on Thu Mingalar Road in Thingangyun Township, has since been closed.
“The authorities said the clinic has been shut down,” another friend of the deceased confirmed.
The abandonment of Ma Zar Chi Oo's body has drawn significant public attention. A Facebook user named Veronica Tz shared the following account of the incident:
“She went to the clinic after work on December 27 for a fat removal treatment. By around 6 p.m., we could no longer contact her. She was reported missing, and her body was found on January 2. During the treatment, the clinic appears to have made a fatal mistake. Instead of taking responsibility, they inhumanely dumped her body in Dagon Seikkan Township. The clinic owner has since fled and denied all accountability, even responding aggressively when questioned. We want to raise awareness about this injustice to ensure that no one else suffers the same fate. Please help us share this to demand justice for her and to uncover the truth behind her death.”
