Cargo ship catches fire in waters near Kawthaung

A fire broke out on December 13 on the MV Pyae Yadanar Win, a cargo ship owned by the Yuzana Company, which was anchored near the Royal Jetty in Aye Yeiknyein Ward, Kawthaung Township, Tanintharyi Region.

 According to local sources, the fire continued until shortly after 1 p.m.

The ship, owned by U Kyin Toe and captained by U Tin Shwe, carried a crew of 22 members. It had arrived in Kawthaung from Yangon on December 11, 2024, and was anchored in the waters while loading cargo when the fire occurred on December 13.

The crew were rescued and the cause of fire were being investigated, it is reported.
