A fire broke out in Mandalay's Aung Myay Tharzan Township on October 24, 2024, at approximately 4:43 PM due to an overheated battery left charging in an upper bedroom of a makeshift structure measuring 15x30 feet. The blaze originated when the battery ignited a nearby mattress, spreading to the upper floor of a two-story 40x30-foot attached building on 90th and 90(A) Streets, between 25th and 26th Streets, according to the Myanmar Fire Services Department.
Firefighters deployed a Level-1 response, arriving with 10 fire trucks, 5 water tankers, 3 administrative vehicles, 20 firefighters, and 50 reserve firefighters. They used around 10,000 gallons of water, including 8,000 gallons for suppression and an additional 2,000 gallons for residual cooling.
The fire was contained by 4:59 PM and fully extinguished by approximately 5:00 PM. The blaze consumed the upper floor of both the 15x30-foot structure and part of the attached two-story 40x30-foot building, with significant damage to the internal contents.
Following the incident, police opened a case under Article 285 against the 36-year-old female homeowner at No. 5 Myoma Police Station (Case No. P-173/2024).
