The booking rate for hotels, motels, and guesthouses in the Bagan Ancient Cultural Zone in Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region, has already exceeded 90% for the Thadingyut holiday period, according to an official from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Bagan Branch) under the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
A report from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Bagan Branch) shows that the number of domestic and international visitors to the Bagan area surged significantly in 2023.
In 2022, Bagan welcomed 187,943 visitors, while 522,914 visitors arrived in 2023, indicating a threefold increase in tourism.
"Currently, Bagan’s hotels are 90% booked, with full bookings from October 16 to 19. This year's Thadingyut festival is expected to be very lively. Due to natural disasters in the Inle and Kalaw areas, major tourist destinations will likely be Mandalay, Yangon, Bagan, Kyaiktiyo, and Chaungtha. Most visitors are expected to come from Yangon and Mandalay. Since it's a five-day holiday, we anticipate high visitor numbers. Hotels, motels, and guesthouses have been preparing their services for over a month. New travel plans have also been developed for tourists visiting Bagan," said U Myo Min Aung, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Bagan Branch).
Visitors to the Bagan Ancient Cultural Zone will have the opportunity to explore seven tour routes that highlight the region’s rich cultural heritage, traditions, natural landscapes, bird species, and artistic masterpieces.
