Emergency maintenance and repair work will be carried out on some sections of the Yadana offshore gas pipeline from October 16 to 18, resulting in a slight reduction in electricity supply, according to the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC).
During the maintenance period, gas supply will be reduced from 92 million cubic feet to 40 million cubic feet. As a result, some gas-fired generating units at the Thaketa and Hlawga power plants in Yangon will be temporarily shut down, reducing total electricity generation by 211 megawatts, according to YESC.
To offset the shortfall, electricity generation from hydropower plants will be increased. However, due to certain capacity constraints on transmission lines supplying Yangon, electricity availability is expected to decline slightly.
YESC said electricity distribution would be adjusted to balance the available power supply during the maintenance period.
