Myanmar nationals returning from Malaysia arrived at Myeik Port in Tanintharyi Region, where they were welcomed by officials, according to reports.

On October 14, locals from Tanintharyi Region arrived in Myeik from Yangon aboard a military vessel. Officials welcomed them at Seik Nge Boat Jetty and made arrangements for their accommodation.

The 142 Myanmar nationals, who are residents of Tanintharyi Region, were transported from Yangon to Myeik aboard the naval vessel Pyithar Aye (4). Their return followed coordination between the governments of Myanmar and Malaysia on humanitarian grounds to repatriate Myanmar citizens facing various difficulties in Malaysia.

The returnees are currently being accommodated at an indoor sports stadium in Myeik, according to a local resident.

“More than 70 people will be transported back to the Dawei area, while more than 10 others will be sent to the Kawthaung area,” the resident said.

The Myanmar nationals who returned to Yangon from Malaysia and then to Myeik were warmly welcomed by Brigadier General Zaw Myo, Commander of Myeik Air Force Station, Chairman of Myeik District Management and Administration Committee U Myo Oo, departmental officials, and social organizations at the Seik Nge Bo Bridge. They were temporarily housed at the district gymnasium, where officials conducted health checks, UID checks, e-ID checks, and PSMS checks, and are planning to transfer them to their respective townships.
