U Myint Kyaing, Union Minister for Immigration and Population and the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim in Myanmar Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan and his team met and discussed cooperation in census work in Myanmar at the reception hall of the Ministry of Immigration and Population in Nay Pyi Taw on December 11, sources said.

In that meeting, they had a friendly and open exchange of views regarding the conditions for the cooperation between the Ministry of Immigration and Population and UNFPA in the past in the population and household census activities and the ability to implement the previous meetings and negotiations, a plan to provide as much support as possible to the ministry's census activities while continuing to serve as a UNFPA resident representative after the assignment of the UN Interim Resident Coordinator, the Director of UNFPA Asia-Pacific region based in Thailand is planning to visit Myanmar in the near future and continued cooperation between the ministry and UNFPA in census work.

Deputy Ministers U Htay Hlaing and Dr. Myo Thant, Permanent Secretary U Win Zaw Aung, Department of Immigration Director General U Ye Tun Oo and officials attended.

In addition, on the same day, Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan and his team had a meeting with the Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Dr. Kan Zaw, at the Office of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations No. 1 in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on issues currently being worked on between Myanmar and the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRCO) and issues to be worked on in the future.

Officials from the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations attended the meeting.
