Two men on a motorcycle sent a threatening letter together with a bullet to a basic education middle school in the village of Naukkalaywa, Thaton Township, Mon State, demanding shutdown at about 8:30 am on December 11, according to local sources.  

A local resident said the letter addressed to the school headmistress reads: "From tomorrow (December 12) this school must be closed or otherwise, the teacher's life would not be guaranteed.”

“But the school remains open today. Some parents did not send their children to school,” he added.

On November 24 also, two young men arrived by bicycle in front of the primary school (Mudon-U) in Beyan Village, Mudon Township, Mon State, threw a threat sheet into the school compound and drove away.

Since November 10, more than 20 schools have been closed due to intense fighting in Chaunghnekhwa region in Kyaikmaraw Township, according to local residents.
