A ceremony to weave and offer the first Matho robes to the Maravijaya Buddha Image in the Buddha Park in Dekkhinathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, took place on the evening of November 26.
Chairman of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla attended the ceremony. First, they cut the ribbon to open the ceremony to weave and offer the Matho robes to the Maravijaya Buddha Image.
Next, the ceremony went on according to the procedure including the weaving of Matho robes, dances and songs and the release of hot-air balloons.
Then, the Senior General and wife and the guests viewed the weaving of Matho robes by the respective teams at nine traditional looms. They also watch the releasing of hot-air balloons and encouraged the pilgrims coming to the Tazaungdaing Lighting Festival of the Maravijaya Buddha Image.
Afterwards, the Senior General and wife paid obeisance to the Maravijaya Buddha Image by offering flowers, water and lights. They then walked around in the precinct of the Buddha image and participated in the offering of 3,600 oil lights to the Buddha image together with pilgrims.
The Tazaungdaing festival of the Buddha image is being held from 25 to 27 November in the Buddha Park decorated with LED lights, and festivities such as offering 9,000 oil lights to the Buddha image, continuous recitation of Patthana, reciting Buddhist verses, launching fireworks, firecrackers, big hot-air balloons and offering the first Matho robes are being organized while the precinct of the Buddha park is decorated with LED lights. MSMEs are also opening stalls selling local products, foodstuffs, consumer products and traditional snacks.
