The Attaran Bridge in Chaunghnekhwa Village, Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State, was destroyed in a mine attack on November 17, making it difficult for local residents to travel.
Due to the bridge destruction, local people from about 30 villages in Kyaikmaraw Township as well as residents from Kyainseikgyi Township of Kayin State are experiencing travel difficulties.
"Since November 10, there have been clashes Chaunghnekhwa Village, making it impossible for people from Kyainseikgyi to travel to Mon State. For compulsory travel, transportation, and health, we have to travel from Kyainseikgyi to Kawkareik and then use the Kawkareik-Kyondo-Zathapyin-Mawlamyine Road, spending more time and money. But if there are clashes on the road, people from Kyainseikgyi will not be able to travel anywhere,” said a resident of Kyainseikgyi.
Moreover, those from Kyaikdo and Phayathonesu cannot go to Mon State, he added.
Due to the bridge destruction, we are no longer able to travel for health or commodity transport purposes. Using a ferry is not possible either because of regional instability. Anyhow, we have to use boats, said a resident of Chaunghnekhwa.
Attaran Bridge also known as Chaunghnekhwa Bridge is a major bridge on Mudon- Chaunghnekhwa-Kyainseikgyi Road. It is a bridge located on a road that can link the border towns of Myawady and Phathonesu in Kayin State.
