Villagers flee fighting in Monekoe Township of northern Shan State

Villagers have been forced out of their homes in Namthan village, Kaunghong village-tract of Monekoe Township, Muse District, northern Shan State and they are in need of food and essential utensils, according to Ta'ang Women's Organization.

Due to the fighting occurred in Namthan village, the locals are now sheltering at the place beside Monekoe creek along the fence near China boundary line.

“The locals from old and new villages were fleeing from ongoing fighting as the end of October. Now, the displaced villagers built the huts beside the fence near the China border. However, the displaced villagers didn’t get the food. The heavy weapon fell into the new Manhan village burning the houses,” said a local from Mungyan village-tract.

Due to the shell burst occurred in Namthan village, fires were burning some houses of the villagers, according to Ta'ang Women's Organization.

As there is no donors and partners who supplied the food to the IDPs, a need for food assistance, says Ta'ang Women's Organization.

Ta'ang Women's Organization has reported that clashes between the Myanmar military and the Northern Alliance in northern Shan State have resulted in up to 18,000 displaced persons and emergency aid are currently needed for the refugees.
