Myanmar and Russian warships depart for the exercise area to conduct defense and security exercises

Myanmar and Russian warships have left for the exercise area to conduct defense and security exercises, sources said.

The delegation led by Admiral Nikolai Anatolyevich Yevmenov, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, who is on a goodwill visit to Myanmar, left from Yangon on November 7 and Maj-Gen Thein Win from Regional Control Command and senior officers of the Tatmadaw (Navy), the Russian military attaché to Myanmar and the officials bid farewell to the delegation.

Three vessels of the Russian Navy: Admiral Tributs, Admiral Panteleev and Sea Tanker Pechenga, which are arriving in Myanmar for a Myanmar-Russia maritime security exercise and a friendship visit, left from Thilawa port in Yangon and officers, other ranks and officials from the Tatmadaw (Navy) bid farewell to them.

During the arrival of these warships, they paid a visit to famous places in Yangon, hold friendly sports competitions and harbor phase exercises and they continued to the exercise area to participate in maritime security exercises including defence against air, water, and underwater attacks, in collaboration with military vessels from Tatmadaw (Navy).

The Russian warships arrived at Thilawa port in Yangon, Myanmar on November 2 to carry out Myanmar-Russian maritime security exercises and to pay a friendly visit and a total of about 800 officers and other ranks from the Russian navy is onboard the vessels led by Captain 1st Rank Aleksei Anciferov of the Russian Pacific Fleet as the leader of the warships.

In addition to this, the chairman of the State Administration Council, Commander-in-Chief of Defense Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and the delegation led by Admiral Nikolai Anatolyevich Yevmenov of Russia's Navy held a meeting on November 4 at the Zeyathiri Beikman in Nay Pyi Taw.

In addition, commander-in-chief of the Tatmadaw (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung welcomed Admiral Nikolai Anatolyevich Yevmenov with a guard of honor in front of Bayint Naung Avenue in Nay Pyi Taw on November 4 and had a meeting in the reception hall of Bayint Naung Avenue.

It is reported that in the talks, the issues of increasing cooperation between the two navies and joint maritime security exercises were discussed.

In the northern waters of Andaman Sea from November 7 to 9, maritime security exercises including aerial, maritime and underwater exercises and live firing will be conducted. During maritime security exercises, the movement of large and small ships, cargo and fishing boats are not allowed within 5 miles of the area and aircrafts and helicopters should not fly below 15,000 feet over the area, announced the Tatmadaw on October 25.
