Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok has released a statement that officials will carry out for MoU renewal with one stop service in Myawady and Kawthaung beginning from September 9 so that Myanmar MoU workers in Thailand don't have to go back to Yangon like before.
MoU workers who arrived Thailand before Cvoid-19 pandemic extended their passports at Myanmar embassy in Bangkok and Consular Office (Chaing Rai), it is learnt. The renewal in those towns applies only Myanmar MoU workers whose passports are two years and above valid, said in the statement. Arrangements have been made to renew about 700 MoU workers in Myawaddy and about 300 workers in Kawthaung with one stop service with U-Turn system.
Concerning that matter, officials from Ministry of Labour from both countries met on September 5 and discussed U-Turn and coordinated on completion of renewal in a short time. The facts such as sending appointment letter and the name list of labourers to respective Thailand’s province of labour, sending these lists to Thailand Department of Labour, from that Department of Labour to Myanmar embassy, and then sending back to Thailand Department of Labour were no more needed.
Moreover, applying work permit by the employers, work agencies and workers to go to one stop service in Myawady and Kawthaung, making contract, issuing of OWIC cards and re-entering of Thailand and taking visas were also discussed.
The above mentioned steps must be done by employers and work agencies. If these steps were done, MoU workers can renew their passports with U-Turn. It will take only 3 or 4 days and it also saves time and money. Besides, MoU workers under black list companies can also make U-Turn to another company by the decision of worker’s and employers’, it is stated.
