As the water level of the Magari creek increases, Phalon Railway Station Village in Taikkyi Township, Yangon Region, has been flooded since July 29, according to the Township Fire Brigade.
With the creek in full flood since 5pm on that day, around 100 houses in Phalon Village are being flooded.
“Around 5pm on July 29, the creek started to overflow, flooding about 100 homes in Phalon Railway State Village. Fire brigade members, social aid organizations, the Red Cross Society and officials had to carry out rescue and relief work,” said an official from Taikkyi Township Fire Brigade.
The rescue work is still going on July 30 (today) morning as the water level is about one foot above the roads. Some houses in the villages are being evacuated, he added.
The flood victims are now taking shelter in Kyundaw Monastery.
