A shooting occurred in a rubber plantation in Thailand’s southern province of Chumphon at about 8am on July 16, killing three Myanmar citizens and a Thais, according to local Thai media.

The shooting exactly broke out at an oil palm plantation in the rubber plantation in Na Sak Yant Sawi district, Chumphon province. One Myanmar citizen died after being shot in the right eye, another died of about 10 bullet wounds to the head and body and another Myanmar citizen called Naing Naung died of bullet wounds to the head and body. A 51-year-old Thai citizen was also killed.

U Moe Gyo, chair of Joint Action Committee for Burmese Affairs (JACBA) in Thailand said: “There are a lot of guns and ammunition on the border and Thai provinces. Thais have licenses to hold guns. But some Myanmar citizens have unlicensed guns. Criminal cases such as drug smuggling, gun violence and human trafficking are behind these murders. This means the severest punishment for law violations. Consequences will come as well.”

Chumphon province is close to Ranong where there are many routes used for illegal migration, human trafficking and child labour, he added.

He also warned that other Myanmar nationals should be careful about such cases.

According to the local news, Thai authorities will be conducting a further investigation into the case.
