Father dies in car crash while coming to attend his son’s funeral in Mawlamyine

A father died in a car accident on his way to the funeral of his son who died from electrocution in Mawlamyine, Mon State, local sources said. 

Maung Saw Maung Thein, aged 19, fell unconscious after stepping on a wire cable while working as a mason within the compound of a teaching monastery in Mawlamyine on June 24. He later died on the way to hospital.

Heading to Mawlamyine, a car carrying his family members who were to attend the funeral crashed into another car in Zilone Village in Myothit Township on Nay Pyi Taw-Myothit-Kanpya Road at about 3.30 pm on June 25. U Ah Tun, father of Maung Saw Maung Thein, sitting in the front part of the car died at the scene, and other four family members were injured, said an official from a social aid organization.     

“The man who died from electrocution was from Minpya of Rakhine State, according to his family members. The father died in this car crash while coming to attend the funeral,” the official said.

 The body of Maung Saw Maung Thein was cremated in Kyaimaraw Township, Mon State, on June 26 and his father’s body on June 27.
