Heavy rains and strong winds may occur in 13 regions and states on June 8 due to strong monsoon winds in the Andaman Sea, according to forecast made by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) on June 8.

Rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread from widespread in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady, Taninthayi regions and Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states and regionally isolated heavy falls in some places as monsoon is strong to vigorous over the Andaman Sea, South Bay, East central Bay and Northeast Bay of Bengal.

Occasional squalls with rough seas will be experienced off and along Myanmar Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach 40 mph. Wave height will be about 9-12 feet off and along Myanmar Coasts.

Because of this, due to strong monsoon winds, strong winds and heavy rains, natural disasters such as sudden floods and landslides can occur. People who live near the highlands are at risk of landslides and people who live near small rivers and small streams are at risk of floods. In order to be aware of the danger in advance, DMH warned domestic flights and long-distance fishing vessels and ships along the coast of Myanmar and in the offshore seas near the shore.

On June 6, rain or thundershowers will be scattered in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Region, Kachin and Kayah states, fairly widespread in Magway, Bago regions and northern Shan and Kayin states, widespread in the remaining regions and states and with likelihood of regionally heavy falls in Taninthayi Region and isolated heavy falls in lower Sagaing and Magway regions.

The recorded rainfalls are 3.54 inches in Dawei, 3.50 inches in Longlon, 2.76 inches in Hainggyikyun, 2.44 inches in Yangon (Botahtaung), 2.36 inches in Manaung, 2.09 inches in Kyaikkhami, 2.05 inches in Nyaungshwe, 2 inches in Kyaukhtu, 1.92 inches in Yangon (Mayangone) and 1.85 inches in Cocogyun.
