The Convocation ceremonies for Distance Education and supplementary day exam were temporarily postponed due to the earthquake, according to the announcement of Maubin University issued yesterday night.

The graduation ceremony that was scheduled to be held on June 9, 10 and 11 was temporarily postponed due to the natural disaster and the date of the graduation ceremony will be notified, Department of Distance Education for Maubin University issued a statement.

Similarly, supplementary day exam of first year courses which will be held from June 8 to 15 will be suspended and the dates for the supplementary day exam will be announced near soon, according to the Exam and Convocation Department of Maubin University. 

There were five earthquakes in Maubin Township, Ayeyawady Region yesterday. The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced that an earthquake with a Richter Scale 4.8 occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres at a latitude of 16.98 degrees north and a longitude of 95.67 degrees east, about 33 miles west-northwest of Kaba Aye seismological observatory, and about five miles south-southeast of Nyaungdon at 4:23 pm on 7 June 2023.

As a result of the earthquake, the historical Shwebonmyint Pagoda in Maubin, Ayeyawady Region, was destroyed, and the monastery building of Mogok Meditation Centre 44 and some parts of Maubin University collapsed. A nun and one woman were killed, according to locals. 

Although plans were underway to hold 1st Convocation ceremonies for distance education in Maubin University from June 1 to 11, it was only held from June 1 to 7.
