A father died while trying to save his son and nephew from drowning in the Thanlwin River near Hpa-an in Kayin State around 1:30 pm on May 6, according to local philanthropic associations.

Rescue teams from Myanmar Fire Services Department and Hpa-an Philanthropic Association retrieved the body of 45-year-old U Saw Thet Tun living in Mya Myintmo No-4 ward, Hpa-an, at the depth of 10 meters in Thanlwin River around 4:15 on that day.

“As soon as we got the information about a missing man in the river, we made search and rescue operations. After searching more than 3 hours, we retrieved the dead body,” said a man from Hpa-an Philanthropic Association. The body was sent to Hpa-an hospital by Marga Philanthropic Association’s vehicle.

An 18-year-old man also drowned at Thanlwin River near Pharpu hill on February 3, according to philanthropic associations.
