Myawady-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No.1, which plays a vital role in commodities flow and smooth transportation access between Myanmar and Thailand, reopened today which falls on January 12th, according to the sources.

The bridge had been closed on the Thai- Myanmar border for about three years starting from February 21st of 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Reopening of the Bridge is good news. As No.1 Friendship bridge closed, the workers had faced transport difficulty. More workers had trouble returning home. Although the workers returned back home under the arrangement of office, they were arrested by paying the cash. Upon reopening the bridge, not only sellers and customers but also the healthcare services will be convenient,” said a person who helps with the labour affairs.

Although the activities of commodities flows launched at the Friendship Bridge No.2, no travellers were allowed. Moreover, Myanmar sent its MoU workers to the Thailand via No.2 Friendship Bridge but the returnees were not convenient.

The dweller near in No.1 Bridge said that after reopening the Bridge No.1, there will be more job opportunities for locals and those who worked in the automobile services.
