Clashes occurred near Daukyat and Shweindon villages in Bilin Township, Mon State, at about 10.45 pm on January 10 causing a traffic blockage on Yangon-Mawlamyine Road, according to travellers.

“The fighting broke out near Daukyat and Shweindon, at the entrance to Bilin Township and the exit of Thaton Township on Yangon-Mawlamyine Road. We heard both small and heavy gunfire,” said a traveller.  

The vehicles en route from Thaton to Bilin had to wait for over an hour. They resumed their travel at about 3 pm, he added.

There have been frequent mine attacks, gun attacks and clashes in and around the areas of Mon State’s townships of Thaton, Bilin and Kyaikhto.
