Due to the clashes occurred on Myawaddy-Kawkareik Asia Road on Ocober 18, vehicles were blocked till October 20 and border trading was also stopped according to sources.
Clashes broke on October 18 near Tawnaw waterfall on Myawaddy-Kawkareik Asia Road, and so, majority of vehicles heading to Myawaddy had to stop at Kawkareik and some vehicles coming out of Myawaddy had to stay at Myawaddy.
From Myawaddy which has most border trade with Thailand, about 500 trucks pass Myawaddy-Kawkareik Asia Road daily and they are now stranded on their way.
“As the trucks are stranded for a long time, trucks carrying groceries, farm produce and marine products will perish compare with trucks carrying construction materials and consumer goods,” said a merchant who doesn’t want to be identified.
"The road is also closed today. We don’t dare to use old road but some use Htokawkoe road as they have emergency issues. That road is rough as there are steep hills. We will go only when the road are accessible,” said a driver from Myawaddy. Htokawkoe road is under the control of KNU/KNLA (PC).
Trucks coming from Thailand had to stop at No-2 Friendship Bridge as a result of temporary closing of Myawaddy border trade route.
