A woman, who came back from a bank, was robbed and shot dead in Mandalay at around 12 noon on July 11, sources said.

A 60-year-old woman living in a house near 50th Street and Manaw Hari Road, Htun Tone Ward, Chanmyathazi Township was shot dead in front of her house after withdrawing money from a bank.

"She came back from the bank after withdrawing money. I do not know the amount of money she withdrew from the bank. May be it is 40 million or 400 million kyats. She is said to be a retired judge. The robbers were after her since she came back from the bank. About three men shot her and took the money and car with them," said a resident near the scene.

The woman died on the way to Mandalay People's Hospital with gunshot wounds.

Authorities are investigating the incident and found the car stolen at the corner of 50th and 107th streets.
