Heavy rain destroyed two ancient buildings in the Bagan ancient cultural heritage zone in Nyaung Oo district, Mandalay Region on September 16 evening according to Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library (Bgan Branch).

No-1969 Taungbi Pitaka ancient building and  northern  wall of Dhamma Yazaka were collapsed according to the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library (Bgan Branch).

“The outer wall was collapsed. We inspected the place. The destruction at the inner wall was not much. There is a small tree at the upper part of the building and from that water entered and collapsed. We are doing the emergency maintenance right now. Here in Bagan, we get heavy rain these days. We are covering the ancient buildings which are under maintenance,” said Director Than Htaik, Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library (Bgan Branch).

Heavy rain in August 30 evening also caused destruction and collapsed no-801 Thanpyin Swar pagoda. On September 11, lion statue of no-1042 Sinka pagoda was also destroyed.
